How Adoption Works

We want every adoption to be a perfect match — for you and for the dog. Here's what to expect from start to finish.

A thoughtful process

Five steps to forever

Explore our available dogs and find one whose personality and needs feel like a good fit for your home and lifestyle.

Fill out our detailed adoption application. We ask about your home, lifestyle, and experience with dogs so we can make the best match.

Once your application is reviewed, we'll arrange an in-person meet-and-greet with your potential new dog.

We do a brief home check to make sure the environment is safe and suitable for the dog you're adopting.

Once everything is approved, your new dog comes home! We provide a transition guide and stay in touch to support you both.

We want to make sure every dog goes to a safe, loving, and prepared home. Here's what we look for:

Must be 28 years or older

Local to NYC, Queens, Long Island, Westchester, or parts of CT and NJ

Landlord approval if renting (written confirmation required)

All household members must meet the dog before adoption

Willingness to provide veterinary care

Fenced yard required for some dogs (noted in their profile)

Senior dogs are available to senior citizens — we love matching older dogs with older adopters
